Two of our Venture students participated in a <b>Q & A session</b> about their experiences so far this semester.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight:normal"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:180%;">Q.</span> Describe your experience ice climbing from day one and progressing throughout the week. <o:p></o:p></b></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:180%;">A.</span></b> Ice Climbing was one of the most difficult, and most enjoyable classes so far this year. I was nervous at first in the days leading up to the class, but the first climb cured my fear quickly. The climbing was incredible, it had looked so structured and somewhat simple, but I was soon finding out just how athletic and spontaneous the sport was. Adam and Brooke also told us of how rare a chance it was to climb, since the sport is so expensive to do. The enjoyment of the class only increased as the week went on. The next day us students were shown different techniques and ways to climb; everyone improved from the lessons given and made us that much more confident and happy in our climbing. The third and forth days were just as fun. We traveled to Bozeman MT, where world class ice climbing is found in Hyalite canyon. Here our skills were again improved and we become bolder in which ice we wanted to climb, how we wanted to climb, and how many times we could climb. The climbing was awesome overall, but to be honest the true enjoyment for me was found in the fellowship and bonding brought by the class. The fear of hanging on a rope, the physical strain, and adventuresome feel was a very blessed doorway for all of us to grow much closer to each other. I know that had my fellow ventures and Adam and Brooke not been there, I would have been much less brave and adventurous in my climbing and it most assuredly would not have been as enjoyable. The class taught me much about conquering fears, climbing techniques, climbing gear, etc. However, my favorite parts of the class were its lessons in encouraging and supporting one another; and the greater love it gave me for the whole venture team.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes">-Kent Atkison</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight:normal"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:180%;">Q.</span> What did the class Christ in the Old Testament do to your view of God?<o:p></o:p></b></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:180%;">A. </span></b>We looked at theophanies and christophonies in the Old Testament and how whenever God appeared, that person he appeared to was immediately on their face and terrified. God hid Moses behind a cleft in a rock because he wouldn’t have been able to bear the weight of God’s glory as he passed by him. Gideon thought he was going to die after he had seen God. God’s glory is far greater than I could ever imagine and after reading these stories, it has given me a better view of who it is I’m talking to when I pray, and of who my creator is. I’m serving and putting my trust in God who is almighty. Having this class helped me see that more. </p> <p class="MsoNormal"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:180%;">Q.</span></b><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight:normal"> What did this class do to your view of Jesus?<o:p></o:p></b></p> <!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <o:documentproperties> <o:template>Normal.dotm</o:Template> <o:revision>0</o:Revision> <o:totaltime>0</o:TotalTime> <o:pages>1</o:Pages> <o:words>441</o:Words> <o:characters>2519</o:Characters> <o:company>Montana Wilderness School of the Bible</o:Company> <o:lines>20</o:Lines> <o:paragraphs>5</o:Paragraphs> <o:characterswithspaces>3093</o:CharactersWithSpaces> <o:version>12.0</o:Version> </o:DocumentProperties> <o:officedocumentsettings> <o:allowpng/> </o:OfficeDocumentSettings> </xml><![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <w:worddocument> <w:zoom>0</w:Zoom> <w:trackmoves>false</w:TrackMoves> <w:trackformatting/> <w:punctuationkerning/> <w:drawinggridhorizontalspacing>18 pt</w:DrawingGridHorizontalSpacing> <w:drawinggridverticalspacing>18 pt</w:DrawingGridVerticalSpacing> <w:displayhorizontaldrawinggridevery>0</w:DisplayHorizontalDrawingGridEvery> <w:displayverticaldrawinggridevery>0</w:DisplayVerticalDrawingGridEvery> <w:validateagainstschemas/> <w:saveifxmlinvalid>false</w:SaveIfXMLInvalid> <w:ignoremixedcontent>false</w:IgnoreMixedContent> <w:alwaysshowplaceholdertext>false</w:AlwaysShowPlaceholderText> <w:compatibility> <w:breakwrappedtables/> <w:dontgrowautofit/> <w:dontautofitconstrainedtables/> <w:dontvertalignintxbx/> </w:Compatibility> </w:WordDocument> </xml><![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <w:latentstyles deflockedstate="false" latentstylecount="276"> </w:LatentStyles> </xml><![endif]--> <!--[if gte mso 10]> <style> /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin-top:0in; mso-para-margin-right:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:10.0pt; mso-para-margin-left:0in; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:12.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ascii-font-family:Cambria; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast; mso-hansi-font-family:Cambria; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin;} </style> <![endif]--> <!--StartFragment--> <p class="MsoNormal"> <b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:180%;">A.</span></b> I had always heard that Christ was present in the Old Testament.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>John 1 talks about how Jesus was there from the very beginning. For most, it is hard to describe their time out in the wilderness. Powerful, refreshing, restful, amazing are just some of the things that came to mind. Jordan described her time as "Challenging in getting over my fear of being alone. Once I was beyond that, it challenged me still to take the time to read or pray even though I had all the time I could want to do that. We spent most of our time in the moist darkness of the sinkhole. We hiked way up on top of a ridge only to descend down 150 into feet into the bottom of a hole. We do not know when this sink hole was discovered or who was the first to venture down into it’s depths, but what fun we had exploring it! As part of the Rock Rescue training ventures are required to know how to rappel and ascend up the ropes. Let me tell you, it is tough work! It’s not quite hand over hand Sylvester Stallone style, but it takes a bit of strength to move the ascenders up over and over again. </span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'trebuchet ms';">Once inside the sinkhole you will find it quite intriguing! The walls are covered with a bright green moss and water slowly trickles down and splashes as it hits a ledge. You’ll see the occasional bat flutter about if you look closely. At the bottom there is a small cave system to explore. We descended further and further in until we reached the last room, which we all squished inside. If we had to guess, we would say we were close to 300 feet below the surface at the end of the caves. As we sat there together in the most quite and dark place imaginable we read Psalm 139 “Where can I go from your spirit? Or where can I flee from your presence? If I ascend into heaven, you are there, if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me, if I say, surely darkness shall fall on me, even the night shall be light about me; indeed the darkness shall not hide from you, but the night shines as the day. Senior Pastor of Bethany Community Church, Richard Dahlstrom taught our students elements of sharing the gospel in our cultural contexts. Here is a word from Brady Bowman on the week.</span></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">"Although a couple of weeks have passed since our trip to Seattle, and indelible imprint has been left on my heart and mind. I believe I can speak for all the Ventures ( and Adam & Brooke) in declaring the trip one of the major highlights of the year. The issue of engaging culture while remaining distinctly Christian is of great importance for us who claim to be orthodox believers. Initially, I was concerned that this expedition to Seattle would be little more than an interesting field trip to view secular culture. My concerns were quickly relieved as the week shaped into a focused study and observation of how to interact with the culture we find ourselves in. Being a student of Culture is so much more than an excuse to check out local shops and drink coffee- it is learning how the gospel operates in (and ultimately transforms) a specific culture. During the latter part of the week, we had the opportunity to prepare and serve meals at the Union Gopsel Mission in Downtown Seattle. I as grateful that we not only had the chance to meet a very real need, but we could also build relationships. Meeting these men in their context was challenging and stretching, but it was ultimately rewarding to establish commmon ground. Also, it pointed to the unifying theme of the week: engaging culture/meeting needs as the means to delivering the gospel. Our class timewith Richard centered on the flexibility of the gospel to culture (old wine, new wineskins). He took us through the history of human ideologies and worldviews, showing that there were common threads thoughout. At a basic level, every person is motivated by a desire to have certain needs met. Instead of discounting particular views as false, we use engagment to sympathize with people's needs and point to thier ultimate fulfillment in Christ. I've learned (and still am learning) that engaging culture helps bring me to a deepr understanding of the good news I'm trying to communicate. The gospel reaveal us all as helpless sinners who need to be transformed by God's grace. Instead of self-righteous </span></span><!--StartFragment--><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">condescensions</span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;"> , we can look at culture like Paul in Acts 17 when, "His spirit was provoked within him as he saw that the city was full of idols". Then our reaction is not to separate from the world, but to build bridges that lead people to the to the city on a hill; where Jesus is our all- satisfying joy and treasure."</span></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;"><br /></span></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:verdana;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">We thank you for the prayers and encouragements that you have sent our way. We feel greatly blessed by the Lord in His abundant lessons He has taught us this last quarter. We have just finished spring break and many of the students attended mission trips to Idaho and Colorado. God brought everyone back safely and we thank Him for that. Currently, we are looking at the last 8 weeks of the school year. We have discussed this with the Venture students and urged them to reflect on the last semester and consider what things they want to accomplish in these last weeks. Many of them have goals to be intentional in their relationships with the students, to be consistant in the disciplines they've started, and to finish strong. We look forward to the day of graduation in the sense that we will see these young leaders go out and accomplish God's will and purposes. Please continue to be in prayer for us and these students as they desire to accomplish these last goals in their time here. Pray that they would continue to grow and learn and remain committed. </span></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>Venture Programhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04278856889846691034noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4274393650081663358.post-43861334392983374352011-01-27T09:22:00.003-07:002011-01-27T09:59:00.964-07:00Every Day is an Adventure<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiD_eaqSXMRhiI666Vj00i2Yov-OG1I5ze8QPI53p8ZecSEz7P4KodT1lEpgvsRFazyesJI3QflhL5ou9E8jkH48uFr2DS6anL0UBbVfOvIi_ObjIXah87aYcpYUR8yfwFIp26AcxeV5vs/s1600/P1190121.JPG"><br /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiY5a1MskF0mGOMVFVcb4vJTCzKDPJYq-h281Ya8aF144o7CkLQxt8YctvUwXJaThBOVWmORBiyYdUqDk7lgKGC1rY6YzpNtsRrMhTn4RnSMOQ65WAlxfnhdRwvz5KOk-QANdm2fja58XM/s1600/P1160097.JPG"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiY5a1MskF0mGOMVFVcb4vJTCzKDPJYq-h281Ya8aF144o7CkLQxt8YctvUwXJaThBOVWmORBiyYdUqDk7lgKGC1rY6YzpNtsRrMhTn4RnSMOQ65WAlxfnhdRwvz5KOk-QANdm2fja58XM/s320/P1160097.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5566903798187000994" /></a><br /><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPIpFyh0gpJ7f6uzAb3d9rLR1WF36dIMy_kzKIiekf4J5fxMJENIFMf_SkI8kgQWu24KwYZFVD5o7xFkNQXfnXkwvyJHIOx9MtCvltmocWsb1LXQeHbdsknCq8Eva8nZRYotJ_lfw1x0s/s320/P1160090.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5566903788277050242" /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhR79CHKQZKgmUbv_XESWMKFPig7V1tciM-LsdjE8DPm9eKjRTn-VIyXeagTv6bYwX31Yqj76cvDMEzn4x7zmJ04-qoG9fGV7w4DdWUv32RVhfqP5paAAALlr00Cck_9khbH_BNEXWE2LI/s1600/P1160093.JPG"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhR79CHKQZKgmUbv_XESWMKFPig7V1tciM-LsdjE8DPm9eKjRTn-VIyXeagTv6bYwX31Yqj76cvDMEzn4x7zmJ04-qoG9fGV7w4DdWUv32RVhfqP5paAAALlr00Cck_9khbH_BNEXWE2LI/s320/P1160093.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5566903793190364962" /></a><br /><br /><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>The question we get a lot with ice climbing is "how does it compare to rock climbing". The truth is, it just doesn't! The Ventures have discovered how different they really are. We are so proud of them for all their hard work that week. Each of them put forth the maximum effort in their climbs. I heard many loud shouts of victory as each of them made it to the top of a climb. </div><div>We taught something called the "E" zone during their rock climbing class, which was used to emphasis encouragment. When they climb, they enter the encouragement zone and they have to speak positive encouragement to each other as they belay and climb. During the week of ice climbing we re-emphasised that point with the words of Eph. chapter 4:1-13. We are to "dillengetly preserve the unity of the spirit in the bond of peace". He says God gave some as teachers, apostles, and pastors ect, for the building up of the body of Christ. We are to remember that to each one of us, a measure of grace has been given and in all humility, gentlness, patience, forbearance, and love we are to preserve the oneness of the body of Christ until we all reach the fullness of Christ in the end. During this second semester we have been going through a series called "Gospel in Life". The gospel should be working itself into every detail of our life to change us to be more like Christ. We have been challenged with thoughts on personal idols, serving the city, religion vs. relationship, and being a part of community. The gospel has challenged us in all those areas to lay down ourselves, and look at the ultimate example, who is Christ. Be praying that we would learn these concepts and put them to use because of our love for Christ and not out of a religious obligation. </div><div>In the next few weeks we will be doing some traveling to Seattle for a our Gospel in Culture class. Pray for our safety and for the students to glean as much as possible from the experience there. We will be doing a winter camping trip and they also have a class on Spiritual Warfare. Pray for their hearts to continue to be open to the lessons God is teaching them. We rejoice with them already in the ways which we see God working in their lives. </div><div>Thank you again for praying. </div>Venture Programhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04278856889846691034noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4274393650081663358.post-32725246588202596322010-12-29T10:10:00.005-07:002010-12-29T10:39:37.622-07:00He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together....<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDUZLWFBvIUAJmbUmbDIWjdplOzjtMvBv95OWg0xtTWB9ewVA3voZkaR4BCklE54HLYAMt2khiXCgug-xifpT62ceW5X8mRhl-oM0-b0HeEhc_fsbaf5ycPO0GUeegQ3CvfZG-o7Acy0c/s1600/61260_10150277608685392_534370391_15003454_3157480_n.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDUZLWFBvIUAJmbUmbDIWjdplOzjtMvBv95OWg0xtTWB9ewVA3voZkaR4BCklE54HLYAMt2khiXCgug-xifpT62ceW5X8mRhl-oM0-b0HeEhc_fsbaf5ycPO0GUeegQ3CvfZG-o7Acy0c/s320/61260_10150277608685392_534370391_15003454_3157480_n.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5556160223838573282" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:georgia, -webkit-fantasy;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" ;font-family:georgia, fantasy;">Hello Everyone,</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:georgia;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:georgia;">We are just starting off the second semester of the MWSB Venture Program 2010-2011. We are welcoming back the Venture students and the First year students at the beginning of this new year. During this first week we will be doing a re-orientation session with the Venture students, refreshing their duty training, talking about break and catching up. This first week they will be in class with Pastor Bryan Hughs of Grace Bible Church in Bozeman, MT. They will be studying the book of Colossian. This book is fitting for the return and beginning of the 2nd semester as it is centered around the theme of Christ. "He is before all things and in Him, all things hold together"..... As we have focused much attention on the message of the gospel this past semester, we will continue to emphasis the centalilty of Christ in ministry and life. He goes before us in this Venture program, and He alone holds it together. Pray during this first week as they are jumping back in and catching up with their fellow students. Pray for their hearts and minds as they go into studying the book of Colossian as well. Parents, we would like to thank you for you participation in the lives of your sons and daughters over the break. We hope and have been praying that their presence would leave a blessing in your homes and that they would draw much encouragement from you as parents.</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:georgia;">During these next few weeks they will be making schedules for memorizing 3 chapters of scripture this semester, they will be reading and doing pre-course assignments for Spiritual Warfare class, and going on a Winter Camping/ Ice Climbing class for a week. They are in for an awesome time and we are glad to be with them. It is hard to put into words, but I’ve asked a couple of Venture students to try……</p><p class="MsoNormal">“<i>If I were to describe this first semester with two words it would be “Gospel Centered” or if I could use 6 words it would be “Life changing because of the gospel.”</i>-Logan Wynne</p><p class="MsoNormal"><i>“Overwhelmingly Deep</i>”- Maddy Yohn</p><p class="MsoNormal"><b>Luke 9:24 “ If you really want to find your life you must lose it.”<o:p></o:p></b></p><p class="MsoNormal">True leadership exacts a toll. The higher the accomplishment the higher the price paid. Any worthwhile accomplishment has a price tag. It comes down to one basic question” How much hard work, sacrifice, and endurance are you willing to pay to obtain the worthwhile goal.” We talked about this earlier in the year during Spiritual Disciplines class. <b>Philippians 3:8 “More than that I could all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish in order that I may gain Christ…..”</b> The Venture students have been challenged by these thoughts. How much will I give up? What has had the place of value in my life above Jesus Christ? What has become a counterfeit god for me? Adam and I would say, that though we are all still in this daily process of losing our life so that we may find it in Christ, we have seen tremendous growth in each of these students. The Lord began this work very quickly this semester and we are so delighted to have seen your sons and daughters respond quickly and obediently. Lewis, soccer and ultimate Frisbee on the filed, 48 hours in the woods by myself, medaling in the special Olympics, fall break in Bozeman, remember our WAFA time with Charles, memorizing scripture, coffee, mullets, and pig roasts, conquering steamboat (again), getting our praise on, crazy ball, the strange joys of detention, late-night conversations, and realizing more fully that our Jesus is at the center of the Gospel.<o:p></o:p></i></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; "><i>I’ve seen so much growth in my life and in the lives of other Ventures that it’s hard to know where to start. Everything for me this semester has gone back to the gospel. I’ve learned so much about the disciplines, and the freedom they afford. At the root of praying, bible reading, memorizing, fasting, etc is the gospel and a better understanding of who Jesus is. All our actions (no matter how “spiritual” they seem) are valuable only as they serve the purpose of loving God more. Going through the book “Counterfeit Gods” in bible study, has opened us up to the fact that even if we profess the Lordship of Christ with our lips, we often still live our lives with something else functioning as savior. Yet again I was brought back to the gospel and the understanding that Jesus is the only one who can truly uproot and supplant the idols of the heart. Recently, we had the privilege of taking “Gospel-Centered Ministry” from </i><i><span>John Erickson</span></i><i>, a pastor of a church in Minneapolis. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, the class deepened my understanding of my sinfulness and my desperate need for reconciliation through the gospel. We learned that ministry cannot be effective unless it is centered around the cross of Christ and the word of God.<o:p></o:p></i></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; "><i>Along with spiritual growth, I have benefitted greatly from the experience of learning to lead. One of the biggest aspects in the learning process has been seeing leadership modeled for me. The staff has done a great job of displaying spiritual leadership, and I am grateful for their examples, especially Adam and Brooke. Not only have they been thoughtful about encouraging and teaching, but also their transparency has been huge. It has been humbling to learn what makes a successful Christian leader and to see it firsthand thought the staff. The first 11 verses in John 15 have been instrumental in the way I lead. Jesus is the one who brings for the fruit and so I’m reminded that in order to effective I must abide in Christ. Not only That, I am starting to see how friendships rooted in Christ have a much deeper bond. As Paul said to the Philippians, “I thank my God in all remembrance of you….in view of your participation in the gospel.” You don’t need to be perfect to have relationships. I’ve learned that being real and open in the best way to enjoy meaningful relationships. The idea is to bear on another’s burdens and to build each other up. So it comes full circle: abiding in Christ and the gospel is the only way to have meaningful Christian fellowship and to lead effectively.</i> “ – Brady Bowman</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; "><o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; ">As you can see, the Lord has done much!<span> </span>Elizabeth Kupferschmid talks about what she is looking forward to in the next semester:</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; "><o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; "><i>“I don’t know what to expect next semester, but based on this first semester my hopes are high. I think the fellowship will be deeper since we have already laid the foundation for our friendships. I am excited about the classes next semester as well. We have continued to see the Lord moving in each of their lives. We have finished going through the book "Counterfeit Gods" for our bible study times and are winding down the year. Only 3 1/2 more weeks and students will be out on Christmas break. You can be praying for all of the students as there is often mixed emotions about leaving. The 6 week break is a long time, but it is often revealing to them where they have truly grown, and where they have conformed to this place. Pray that they would be strong and prepared to face the challenges at home. We will be updating the blog one more time this semester to wrap it up until the next semester. Thank you again for all your support and prayers. Please be praying for the Ventures in the next few weeks of class. God has often used the upcoming weeks of class to do a lot of "heart" work in them. Pray that they would be sensitive to Him and would not quench the spirit.</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:medium;">"He saved us, not on the basis of the deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and the renewing by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior. I have to say God has been doing an awesome work in these Ventures. Starting with the week of Spiritual Disciplines God was revealing some truth and challenging the depth of their relationship with Him. As we asked for prayer that they would “count all things loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus…” I believe He is really doing that. “Discipline without direction is drudgery” is the first line in their textbook and was an essential point they needed to get. I would describe Spiritual Disciplines class as a road map. Each discipline points out a direction to walk in order to get closer to the Lord. If you parents and friends are interested in that for your own life we recommend the textbook from this class, “Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life”, by Donald Whitney.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>I would encourage you as you talk with these students to continue to challenge them in asking how they are growing in spiritual discipline.</p> <p class="MsoNormal">Once the week of Disciplines was over we headed into our 48-hour Solo class. That time with the Lord is irreplaceable.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>We headed out Monday after lunch and camped up the Dearborn canyon. We spent the evening at a central campsite sitting around the fire discussing what was to come. There was excitement, anticipation, fear, and curiosity in the faces of these students. Each of them was wondering what was to come in the next two days alone. As the evening began to close we began discussing the issue of fear that comes out of being alone. One student was bold enough to share her immense struggle with the whole idea of being alone in the woods for 48 hours. As we talked through the evening God began to reveal truth to all of us about what his word says concerning fear. We are commanded not to fear, but to only have a fear of the Lord.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>His perfect love cast out fear. We discussed how fear is a controlling emotion that captivates our hearts to believe its lies above God’s truth.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>Have you been there? Paralyzed by fear and not know the way out? Praise be to God that there is freedom and truth. He has come that we might have life and have it abundantly. Romans 6 says that you are a slave only to the one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience resulting in righteousness. When dealing with fear the most important part of claiming freedom is to replace the fear with TRUTH. God’s word is divinely powerful, able to defeat strongholds (2 Cor 10). </p> <p class="MsoNormal">Let’s hear first hand from our Venture student Lori Halldorson:</p> <p class="MsoNormal">“Fear. It is the secret monster that controls the way you live without even realizing it is taking effect. Fear has been clouding my vision and leaving me victim to my own imagination for years. This struggle in my life has come to the surface just last week during our class, 48 Hour Solo. The reason for the Solo was to practice the spiritual discipline we were taught <span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>in a previous class by spending two days I the wilderness alone. This experience was a challenge and a stepping-stone for me in my fight against fear. I had to ask myself, “Do I really trust God? ”Along the way I kept a journal of my experiences. Here are two of my entries that will hopefully give you a glimpse into the process of trusting the Lord:</p> <p class="MsoNormal">I had no idea even how to fight the battle I was about to face. The Lord wanted to give me the spirit of courage, but first I had to give up the spirit of fear I was clinging to. I had two choices before me, either to believe what God’s word says is truth, or to disregard it and be overcome by fear. I wanted badly to believe the Lord, but again I was fearful to leave the very comfort of having fear because that would require me to actively practice trusting God with everything.</p> <p class="MsoNormal">The process was truly life altering because of the choice to place my trust in the Lord instead of myself. During the solo, not once did the spirit of fear overcome me. The Lord carried me through and I realized that in order to trust the Lord I must allow Him to be my full confidence. I encourage you to read psalm 91 out loud when battling fear. Allow me to leave you with this challenge, “What can you do today to actively test your trust in the Lord?” </p> <p class="MsoNormal">We thank Lori for being willing to share this with you all. It’s just a neat insight in to the work God is doing in their hearts. Keep calling and writing your children letters of encouragement and challenge. Those words have been floating around the heads of these busy Ventures these past few weeks! Wilderness Advanced First Aid is completed and each of them are now certified! Parents need not fear with these Ventures here! The Students enjoyed this intense class taught by Charles Kirkland III. Charles is a deep field medic in Antarctica and teaches wilderness medicine all around the country. He has been coming here for 7 years now teaching WAFA to our staff and Venture students. We sure enjoy having him here. Thank you Charles! They shared many good laughs during this week! Each of them had a quote that they could not live down as they had made silly mistakes. Even through a hands on course such as this the Lord has been working in the hearts of the Venture students. I've asked several of the students what things they have been learning in these first few weeks and they had some neat things to say. <div><b><br /></b></div><div><b>Elizabeth Kupfershcmid</b>- "I learned through the WAFA course that I can do my best and I don't have to be afraid of failing. I know nothing good is coming directly from me, it is coming from God. I can be confident in God and not in myself."</div><div><b><br /></b></div><div><b>Scott Frasier</b>- "During Backpacking I learned the importance of meditating on scripture, memorizing, and putting time into it."</div><div><b><br /></b></div><div><b>Maddy Yohn</b>-"I love this year 10 times more than last year. My attitude is the core of that. I noticed how big a difference my attitude makes and how much more I can get out of it."</div><div><br /></div><div><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:x-large;">W</span></b>e praise the Lord for His work in these student's lives. Currently they are sitting in class studying Spiritual Disciplines of the Christian life with Kaj Balintyne. Be praying for them as they are learning about avenues of drawing closer to the Lord through the disciplines. This week really digs into the heart! We are praying Philippians 3:8 for them, "<i>More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish in order that I may gain Christ....</i>" We are praying that they would count all things to be loss, in view of knowing Christ better. That means sacrifice, which can be difficult and without the right heart behind it, it can be empty. So we are very excited for them to be learning these things this week and begin to put them into practice. </div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:x-large;">N</span>ext week is a short week of class. We will be taking them on a 48 hr solo trip. This time will be used to put to practice many of disciplines they will have just learned about. True solitude, silence, prayer, meditation, fasting, journaling, and bible intake are what we are having them do. Pray earnestly for their hearts during this time. God never fails to meet them while they are all alone for 48 hrs and bring to light many hidden things in their hearts. We know that some of them will be battling fear during this time also, so pray that they will respond with "Power, Love, and a Sound Mind". We want to praise the Lord for the work He is already doing and the work He is going to do!</div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:x-large;">B</span>lessings to you all.</div><div><br /></div></div>Venture Programhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04278856889846691034noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4274393650081663358.post-77480281228917227062010-09-13T15:27:00.005-06:002010-09-13T16:46:30.482-06:00Rock Climbing/Backpacking<div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#0000EE;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="text-decoration: underline;"><br /></span></span></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#0000EE;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="text-decoration: underline;"><br /></span></span></div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>WEEKS 2 & 3- Introduction to Rock Climbing and Backpacking.<br /><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#0000EE;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="text-decoration: underline;"><br /></span></span></div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixtQSn_uHlk9ly-oYXWkTtGxSZq0XElO8HvHV197Ih925k87T6l6C0WXb6U0D8UI5gAGFbfrgiffGxVIrJg188w7bb7bIprB7K75OdGrbPeVIYVmFKUwlwl3-B89Lxgv7sn6qetvogGHI/s1600/P9010067.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixtQSn_uHlk9ly-oYXWkTtGxSZq0XElO8HvHV197Ih925k87T6l6C0WXb6U0D8UI5gAGFbfrgiffGxVIrJg188w7bb7bIprB7K75OdGrbPeVIYVmFKUwlwl3-B89Lxgv7sn6qetvogGHI/s320/P9010067.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5516516007793495346" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqzyZK2fco7RBL_-wcavckYOygAce1UiTDg6TpJWnMflx1UbQYpY-Caqf-ek1mDgM3rDQKBwzo3CipQchGMmmpw07gsiUrGiaMTsqB6UV6JvdI13g4bNKvVf0jAaTw-9bI1j1iDG2qEPs/s1600/P8310044.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqzyZK2fco7RBL_-wcavckYOygAce1UiTDg6TpJWnMflx1UbQYpY-Caqf-ek1mDgM3rDQKBwzo3CipQchGMmmpw07gsiUrGiaMTsqB6UV6JvdI13g4bNKvVf0jAaTw-9bI1j1iDG2qEPs/s320/P8310044.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5516515997639565234" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6IYE1v-4vAFJYT5hPWKiZy28DPrkUSisiXE1CBlEI2xySL-FvQOD-LBcCVTT_Ut8zvDgF1k1veInhmf2iuGSoaaqYH0XP-34sBof8FLEfIHMie8hbiI3wv5OaPyjLFOLiZopTVAl8sFs/s1600/P8310039.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6IYE1v-4vAFJYT5hPWKiZy28DPrkUSisiXE1CBlEI2xySL-FvQOD-LBcCVTT_Ut8zvDgF1k1veInhmf2iuGSoaaqYH0XP-34sBof8FLEfIHMie8hbiI3wv5OaPyjLFOLiZopTVAl8sFs/s320/P8310039.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5516515985401293954" /></a>This is just a quick post of some pictures to let you guys see a little bit of the Rock Climbing and Backpacking classes. We had awesome weather for the week of Rock climbing. We spent time in Helena and right here by the school. Everyone did a great job and we are proud of their accomplishments. Rock climbing is a challenging sport in many ways.By the end of the week the Venture students we certified to Belay, competent in basic rock climbing technique and able to draw ministry applications out of the sport.<div><div><br /></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 238); -webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: underline; "><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5lO1TyHZO344zbHEMiWsPYNSMo24frwCVww5GoW5dYFLP4XaIplXM7rLvX2Ge3KEmKa4yOIPK6FNmCZrfKtQUzp4E3ZemSY8HQFFqazzyYVl066EPBcEg4tqSuu7ZgKYOhoUqBajVNck/s320/P9100164.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5516521420608533474" style="display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px; " /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#0000EE;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#0000EE;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); "><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioS2Yen_2aEt4P_I55tfbTyx-dkAD4aZLqlaPYKgtOdZyS4P1zkbTHEldeLUEqf2XxuIdQxei47FJ9GDHiwe5zK4Fvvh1L6_OYqYPvq2Gl4rYCSPDV7Hlq4oMaNuMiYUQlp2GiE0tgeD8/s1600/P9050092.JPG"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioS2Yen_2aEt4P_I55tfbTyx-dkAD4aZLqlaPYKgtOdZyS4P1zkbTHEldeLUEqf2XxuIdQxei47FJ9GDHiwe5zK4Fvvh1L6_OYqYPvq2Gl4rYCSPDV7Hlq4oMaNuMiYUQlp2GiE0tgeD8/s320/P9050092.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5516521434918865634" style="display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px; " /></a></span></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzoZeGK8K6isnfDoMAkd9XKjoxRPcN5po9heHtQ3AIk_llaU2UKrR6XcyJF1mUe56jDDDofnZN4k0DF0gYKzQth5tkTWHvUYcqlJq2XLG1anB02U_juyei3nqcU27iwJ9raYmok2V1Sec/s1600/P9090145.JPG"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzoZeGK8K6isnfDoMAkd9XKjoxRPcN5po9heHtQ3AIk_llaU2UKrR6XcyJF1mUe56jDDDofnZN4k0DF0gYKzQth5tkTWHvUYcqlJq2XLG1anB02U_juyei3nqcU27iwJ9raYmok2V1Sec/s320/P9090145.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5516521442383410306" style="display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px; " /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Backpacking through the Bob Marshall Wilderness proved to be beautiful and wet!! Students talked about the things they learned about the Lord, themselves, and each other through this experience. More than once it was said how big God is and how small we are, yet He care for us most out of all creation. We praise the Lord for the fun and safe time that 70 people traveling over 260 miles combined got to share with each other.</div><div style="text-align: center;">Currently the Venture students are in class with Charles Kirkland studying Wilderness Advanced First Aid. Already they have been a delight to us all. This photo was taken on the Orientation trip to Glacier National Park. We hiked the peak of Mt. Oberland, and spent some time enjoying swimming and other trails. During this trip we talked about our expectations of them during the school year and the responsibilities of a Venture student. We enjoy prayer time around the camp fire with a lot of fellowship. It is evident to us that their hearts are eager to learn leadership and serve the first years. One of our prayers for the staff and Venture students is that we would serve and lead humbly. Isaiah 66:2 says "This is the one to whom I will look, he who is humble and contrite in spirit." Apart from Jesus Christ we cannot produce fruit. We know that these students are eager to be used in the lives of their peers, and we pray that they "Abide" in Christ as John 15 talks about. </span></span></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="text-decoration: underline;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'lucida grande';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#003333;">During the first week of school the Venture students are spending the mornings in class with the first years and also the afternoons in their own class. They have over 50 verses to memorize throughout the first semester and are required to spend time exercising for 30 mn. a day, 5 days a week. We ask them to be very disciplined in their days here as an avenue to spiritual growth as well as for being an example to the first year students. In our first weeks of bible study we will be sharing testimonies together so that we can become more transparent and to know each other better. Upcoming classes they will be taking are "Introduction to Rock Climbing", Backpacking II, and "Wilderness Advanced First Aid". These classes will be a lot of fun for them as well as stretching for some of them. We are look forward to using moments to teach through life experiences about fear, trust, and group unity. The Lord is always so good to be the ultimate teacher in this place. </span></span></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="text-decoration: underline;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'lucida grande';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#003333;">What a delight these Venture students have been. The Venture program has been such a growing experience for us as a team and individually. God has been stretching me in so many ways, in prayer and what it really means, fasting, meditating on His word, and even how to love. In classes we have been learning Leadership Principles from I Timothy- Discipleship, Purity, and about the Church Body. At times, this semester has been challenging in the sense that I as a leader have to make sure I am doing what is right in my spiritual walk before I try to lead anyone, and choosing to love people when I don't "feel" like it. This year has been such a blessing! I've loved getting to know everyone. It's been such a blessing to be able to come alongside the first year students and encourage them and also pray for/with them. The biggest challenge for me has been the verses we were assigned to to memorize during the semester. Although it's difficult, it's worth it in the long run. It's hard to pinpoint my favorite class, because there's so much to learn from all of them, but the one that sticks out to me the most is "Spiritual Disciplines" that was taught by the staff. In our last blog we asked for prayer concerning the venture's 48 hour solo, and God was faithful again. First the weather was calling for rain the entire time we were out, but it did not rain until we were well on our way back to campus. God is sovereign in the small things too. The Venture students learned and enjoyed their time with the Lord during those 48 hours. Some thought it was difficult, some thought it could have been longer, but over all the sense was positive and the value of true silence and solitude was captured. Everyone was safely kept by the Lord and we're grateful for the time we got to share after the experience. <div>Shortly after that the team was off to the mountains again to experience packing in on horses. Each of them learned how to saddle, ride, and care for their own horse as well as set up a back country camp, cook, and all of the work that goes into the animals out there. We were blessed by a local rancher/outfitter with the use of his 18 pack animals and equipment. This kind of trip is much work with much reward. Our staff member Kevin Lytle taught the students art of leading a trip like this with all it's work skills and people dynamics they might encounter. We are again so grateful for the safety God granted us with a total of 16 people and 25 horses camped together in the Mountains! In the past, several students have gone on to use this packing class in further ministry opportunities. It is always our hope that in each outdoor class and experience the students are challenged personally, taught the skill, taught to lead in it, and given the opportunity to take it further into ministry. </div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" font-weight: bold;font-size:18px;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" font-weight: bold;font-size:18px;">Currently...........</span></div><div>For the next 5 weeks left in our semester the Venture team is stationed here on Campus. Their classes from here on out will be instructed by our resident and visiting faculty. This week they are studying Absolute Purity with Peter Wetendorf. Pray for them to see clearly what absolute purity entails in their own lives and to desire to work at it with discipline. As leaders we desire to be bold and Biblical in our lifestyles and teaching and we desire also for these students to rise to the occasion in their own realm. Caitlin Elya, one of the Venture students has said that the purity class has been relevant and challenging in her life. Peter has challenged each of the students to draft an intentional and specific personal purity plan for their current situation and the future. This has been a huge encouragement to Caitlin on how to intentionally live with absolute purity with no exceptions. </div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" font-weight: bold;font-size:18px;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold;">Pray............</span></span></div><div>We are so blessed again by this team and are so encouraged to see their leadership with the students and to see how the students are responding so positively to them. God is at work in hearts here so pray against the schemes of our enemy to seek, steal, and destroy these people. We have full confidence that God is refining and will continue to in these students as they are seeking Him! Pray also for their upcoming weeks of class. They will be studying the following: </div><div>Leadership Principles in the Church Body- Dave Barnhart, Bible Study Meathods- Jim Carlson, Communication- Delvin Hackwith, and Leadership Principles in Contentment- John Erickson. </div><div>Pray for their hearts and their minds to be engaged in each course. As we near the end of our semester a tendency amongst everyone here is to become anxious for winter break and to slightly disengage from the place. </div><div>Pray for a continued excitement about learning in class and from the community life we share. Pray for the first year students especially as they gear up to go back home and leave the fellowship they've been sharing for the past semester. It is usually bittersweet to have a break and miss the "family" environment created amongst the class. Pray for their strength to step up spiritually when situations call for it. A place we would like to see all our hearts here is to crying out "Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked." (Psalm 84:10)</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you again for your prayers for this school and this team of Venture students. We hope you enjoy hearing about the events and classes in the Venture's life. And that you yourself are encouraged in your life. </div><div>In Christ ~ Adam and Brooke Jordan</div><div> </div>Venture Programhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04278856889846691034noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4274393650081663358.post-16279071558844386942008-10-21T09:46:00.003-06:002008-10-21T10:32:45.742-06:00Dressing Up...<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMk_nKzeT9WHHSfnTyNmi9aIl7sCfvoTgNM4FWLRbdMGGyBwnx9Rp_VtLCgiZ-2OrCWMPW2Ux7XPiLFwWmWwpmQTa7iHqGvLYFAqpN0xzw_KerozonTjTFovbXGYyFevBztAxQTL28KFzj/s1600-h/DSC07357.JPG" style="text-decoration: none;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">The fun never seems to end at MWSB. The creativity that flows in this canyon at times can be impressive and other times just done right funny. This year there have been several events that have encouraged the creativity to arise, for example: there was a dress up like a rock-star dinner, Rodeo Guy and Girl night, and just recently dress like your favorite super star for dinner after the fun events of "Super Saturday". The staff at MWSB have been very thankful for the group of Venture students that are so engaged in this year's class. Even after a week of being in the mountains on a pack trip - they came home and led the students in "Super Saturday" where every hour was filled with games, crafts, food and laughter. It has been fun to see these students WORK hard, but then let loose and PLAY hard. Pretty sure God is looking down - laughing right along.... go ahead take a look at these pictures and laugh too!</span></a><div><br /><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMk_nKzeT9WHHSfnTyNmi9aIl7sCfvoTgNM4FWLRbdMGGyBwnx9Rp_VtLCgiZ-2OrCWMPW2Ux7XPiLFwWmWwpmQTa7iHqGvLYFAqpN0xzw_KerozonTjTFovbXGYyFevBztAxQTL28KFzj/s1600-h/DSC07357.JPG" style="text-decoration: none;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); "></span><img style="text-align: left; display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; cursor: pointer; " src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMk_nKzeT9WHHSfnTyNmi9aIl7sCfvoTgNM4FWLRbdMGGyBwnx9Rp_VtLCgiZ-2OrCWMPW2Ux7XPiLFwWmWwpmQTa7iHqGvLYFAqpN0xzw_KerozonTjTFovbXGYyFevBztAxQTL28KFzj/s320/DSC07357.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5259638045661285634" /><br /></a></div><div><div style="text-align: center;">Super Hero night.<br /></div><br /><br /><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiurkrx4b9DTiv5_d7w3OUAYLyfiUO-yHxE6oHEpxXr4IwDTmDHy-uIFvS7hIKy6wTEIudfTeARfrASl-jvZrHR_BKOdZszorl5ynqaM8Dl65ob3k_C0zTTifR6VgHYwk9LqfUtS4ajqoE6/s320/DSC07354.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5259638058639119554" /><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div></div><div><div style="text-align: center;">Not exactly sure which super heros Daniel Meza and Taylor Devine are posing as, but whatever works... right?</div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWEFHk8lV82vP9-gH8iVpphkWTAZfxuF9YVIH10PVKA41_r4ODtWjBKO9lfNWGP5ncMNmhreyZ7HzKpMtdqtQCbBeMMaZesdOkdslm73nAyI6-SBHYAAKvYcDLbh523VT5oHTjU2TGrUMj/s1600-h/DSC06855.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWEFHk8lV82vP9-gH8iVpphkWTAZfxuF9YVIH10PVKA41_r4ODtWjBKO9lfNWGP5ncMNmhreyZ7HzKpMtdqtQCbBeMMaZesdOkdslm73nAyI6-SBHYAAKvYcDLbh523VT5oHTjU2TGrUMj/s320/DSC06855.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5259638067247196610" /><br /></a></div><div><div style="text-align: center;">Rodeo Night... the girl Venture students.</div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKN-FBxHV6VtDi7rmJNiK5iSOI7B4JbIpbkosSQyJ_7vZPj3Fo8moiDwSfvSC5JS-fZLVhf7RjUng4BrOlxB0MMuAzRhmlLKpdE55GBNVZpYivTd9AU3ixMlA7gfzJLHj6GvnHvyNYGbk9/s1600-h/DSC06495.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKN-FBxHV6VtDi7rmJNiK5iSOI7B4JbIpbkosSQyJ_7vZPj3Fo8moiDwSfvSC5JS-fZLVhf7RjUng4BrOlxB0MMuAzRhmlLKpdE55GBNVZpYivTd9AU3ixMlA7gfzJLHj6GvnHvyNYGbk9/s320/DSC06495.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5259638080362215442" /></a><div style="text-align: center;">Rock Star Night... <br /></div></div></div>MWSB Staffhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16473896403927094283noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4274393650081663358.post-90995531882254356472008-09-26T11:25:00.008-06:002008-09-26T12:15:59.723-06:00Venture Program 08'-09'<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_m8KLTkglVMQ5k7pIIi1I6bM72X8M_cJbtxU1pjbkrR_A35iRYxDs7LKGR5DAp_Od2M-ZTsFm4KIzKNO7Oismoy8IyEZc2lqRX2LD8vjOClNO9pO-Picf4z1Y7iPfL6m7wf6o_mheDQE/s320/venture+students.jpeg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5250388396966773378" /><br /><br /><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'lucida grande';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">Recent Events</span></span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'lucida grande';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">:We would like to introduce this year's Venture Students! Left to right, Top- Jessie Larsen, Daniel Meza, Josh Wenger, James Shanahan, Laura, Zentmire, Lauren Arndt, Paige Rodriguez, Jonathan Phillips. Bottom- Caitlin Elya, Brad Primmer, Cody Boehm, and Kendi Danreuther. We have continued the program with a returning 12 students from the class of 2008. We are so excited about the team God has brought back for this year. Already we have had several adventures with them. Classes include outdoor education as well as academic courses focused on Leadership. This first quarter has included Intro to Rock Climbing, Wilderness Advanced First Aid, Backpacking and Solo Camping, Pack Trip and Backcountry Maintenance as well as a ream of academic courses including Spiritual Disciplines, Discipleship, Leadership Principles from 1 Tim, and Theology. The upcoming semester holds much more! Please be praying for our wisdom in leadership and for all of us to be following the leading of the Holy Spirit. As we travel and host different outdoor classes please pray for our safety and fellowship as a team. God has been active in every class and teaching each of us through the outdoor experiences and formal classes. </span></span><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'lucida grande';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">The Team</span></span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'lucida grande';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">: The focus of the year for the Venture students is learning and living leadership amongst the student body. The team has been doing an excellent job of putting forth the effort in relationships and mixing in with the 1st year students. We are excited for them as they are learning for the first time how to lead events, dorm meetings, and foster one-on-one relationships with others. Pray for them as they seek opportunities with students and follow the leading of the Holy Spirit with their every day. Something we really appreciate about this particular group is their spirit of enthusiasm. We have seen their eagerness come out in the opportunities to lead, in bible studies, class time, relationships, their desire for the Lord, and in always looking for a laugh. </span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'lucida grande';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">Ways to Pray Now</span></span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'lucida grande';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">: One of the upcoming classes we are currently gearing up for is the 48 hour solo. We take each Venture student out and drop them off in a marked location. The students are left for 48 hours for a time in Silence and Solitude. Our purpose in this course is to practice the spiritual discipline of Silence and Solitude in a setting with minimal distractions and complete solitude. The students are not allowed to hike or bring any source of entertainment. This is a challenging time as well as a precious time. God will use this time in mighty ways, especially if the student is eager and willing. Please pray for each Venture student to be searching and listening to the Lord during this time. The classroom work proved itself to be more challenging than was expected but all 12 students dreamed up great plans for there own 8 day trip into the high desert canyons of southern Utah. From budgets, to lists and detailed itinerary, they proposed their plans to the staff. Those plans were then compiled into an actual trip schedule, taking one day of activities and meals from each proposed trip. The students final grade will come during the first week of April when they get a chance to test their plans, as they each lead one day of our adventure. These 10 students have been a part of a ministry outreach in the communities of Augusta and Great Falls throughout the school year. The purpose of the Outreach is to show God's love in a practical way to the surrounding communities that we live in. </span><div><span style="font-family:georgia;font-size:85%;">The Africa trip is the "capstone" outreach, and it's intention is to open our eyes to the larger context of a global community that needs to be reached with God's love in a practical way. The support letter the team put together will be posted soon. If you would like to be a part of this ministry opportunity by supporting the team financially, please send a donation to MWSB Mission Fund via the <a href="http://www.mwsb.org/">PayPal link on our website </a>(all donations are tax deductible). If you choose to donate towards the Africa mission trip using PayPal, please "Add special instructions to seller" and type in "Please designate to Africa Mission Trip" prior to clicking the "Donate" button. We would ask that you be praying for the Africa team in the next couple of months as they prepare for the trip and in the month of May as they serve in South Africa.</span></div><div><span style="font-size:85%;"><br /><span style="font-family:georgia;"></span></span></div><div><span style="font-family:georgia;font-size:85%;">Blessings and thanks,</span></div><div><span style="font-family:georgia;font-size:85%;">Imago Dei (Mission Team) </span></div>MWSB Staffhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16473896403927094283noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4274393650081663358.post-66173942284970715352008-02-29T16:53:00.005-07:002008-03-17T09:26:26.238-06:00MWSB is bloggin!<span style="font-family:georgia;font-size:85%;">Welcome to the MWSB blog!<br /><br />This blog will be used to keep you updated on upcoming events, activities and happenings.<br /><br />If you have questions or comments please take a look at the bulletin board or our website (links on left).<br /><br />Please check back regularly.<br /><br />Enjoy! -Admin</span>MWSBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13991818629566779364noreply@blogger.com0
